Water Softeners

How does a Water Softener work?

Our premium water softening systems work by exchanging troublesome minerals like calcium and magnesium, with sodium ions through a process called ion exchange.

With over 100 Years of experience manufacturing World Class Water Softeners, Ecowater Softeners transform hard water into luxurious, soft water that's gentle on everything it touches.

Homeowners who invest in quality water softeners report huge savings on repairs and replacement of water using appliances like showers, kettles, washing machines and dishwashers. They eliminate calls to their plumbers to repair and replace limescale damage in hot water cylinders, taps and pipes. Many report noticeable reductions in cleaning time and costs as well as exceptional differences in their hair and skin.

A necessity or a luxury? Our customers unanimously say both.

Limescale build up on a tap

Hard Water & Limescale

How do I know if I need a Water Softener?

Limescale deposits can been seen in the form of white/grey scale build up in kettles and shower heads. Stains on taps, sinks & shower doors are a common sign of hard water. If you are experiencing problems with limescale damage in washing machines, dishwashers and your plumbing system, a Water Softener is essential.

Other common symptoms include dry skin after washing, soap that does not lather easily, reduced appliance efficiency, or a white chalky residue on dishes and glassware. Homes in many parts of Ireland, especially those with limestone in the water supply, experience these issues regularly. A professional water test can confirm the hardness level in your area. At The Water Treatment Centre, we offer expert advice and Free Water Testing to help you determine if a water softener is the right solution for your home.

Water softeners remove hardness minerals (mainly calcium and magnesium) from water using a process called ion exchange. The system contains resin beads coated with sodium (or potassium) ions. As hard water passes through the resin, calcium and magnesium ions swap places with sodium ions, softening the water.
Softened water contains traces of sodium and is not suitable for making babies bottles or for anyone who might be on a low salt diet. For most households, softened water is perfectly fine for drinking however we do always recommend installing a Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filter. This top of the range water purification system will remove sodium and purify drinking water up to 99.99% providing an endless supply of pure water for drinks, tea & coffee, cooking & more. A Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filter installed with a Water Softener is a great combination and ensures great water from every tap in a home for all to enjoy.
